In Turkey, elections that are held to elect the President uses a two-round system. General elections were held throughout Turkey on 24 June 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on 18 April 2018 that the vote was being brought forward. Parliamentary elections took place to elect 600 Members of Parliament to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. In parliamentary elections on Sunday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s party’s alliance, the People’s Alliance, secured a majority of seats. As a result, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was elected as the first executive president of Turkey under the new presidential system.
