People were very angry with the results of The Treaty of Sèvres. Then Mustafa Kemal Atatürk led the Turkish War of Independence that between the Allies of World War I and the Ankara-based Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The Treaty of Lausanne was a peace treaty. It was signed between Turkey and Britain, France, Italy, Greece, Romania, the Kingdom of Serbs, Groats, Slovenes, at Lausanne, on July 24, 1923. The treaty led to the international recognition of the sovereignty of the new Republic of Turkey as the successor state of the defunct Ottoman Empire.
