Anglo/Franco-Turkish Treaty (October 1939)


Turkey is located in the Asia Minor Peninsula in Western Asia. Turkey spanning the Eurasian continent and adhering to the Turkish Strait. Thus, it’s strategic location is very important. During the Second World War, most countries in Europe and Asia were fighting. It was very uncomfortable for Turkey to be caught between several major forces. The West of Turkey was the Axis Power, the North was strong power of Soviet Union, the South and the East were the spheres of British power. Turkey was at the center of the World War II vortex. The Anglo-Franco-Turkish Treaty signed in Ankara, on October 19, 1939, which was after Hitler launched the War War II (October 1939). It established a commit men for mutual cooperation. Britain and France pledged to protect Turkey. Relatively, Turkey needed to remain neutral, which means Turkey must resist Axis expansion.
