The Treaty of Sèvres (August 10th 1920)

The Treaty of Sèvres was signed between the Allied Powers and the Ottoman Empire after the end of World War I on August 10th 1920. The Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers and fought with Germany during World War I. As a result the great European empires was destroyed by the War. The Ottoman Empire was carved up the ‘Sick Man of Europe’ territorially by The Treaty of Sèvres. Britain took effective possession and control of Palestine while France took over Syria, Lebanon and some land in southern Anatolia. East and West Anatolia were declared areas of French influence.The terms of the Treaty of Sèvres were harsh and many in the Ottoman Empire were left angered and embittered by their treatment. The Treaty of Sèvres also set the Partitioning of the Ottoman Empire.
